No “Regerts”: How to Handle Misspellings, Poor Grammar, and Other Common Tattoo Mistakes - 17 May 2018 17:12

Imagine getting up from the tattoo chair to examine your newest work of art and you notice there’s something a little off with it. You keep staring at it and then it finally dawns on you: there is a word misspelled. No amount of planning or research can help prepare you for the possibility that tattoo mistakes occur. Even the best of the best make mistakes from time to time. It’s possible that from the time the tattoo gel was applied, the stencil paper was laid down, and the needle was placed on your skin, something went wrong.

So, how do you go about fixing an error of something so permanent? Here are a few solutions.

Fix It
Might be easier said than done, but it is possible to fix some common tattoo mistakes. If a letter is missing or misspelled, sometimes this can be fixed in a simple touchup. Be sure to let the shop know that a mistake was made so artist and client can come together to find the best solution to have it fixed.

Cover It
If there is just no hope for fixing the error, you can always opt to have the tattoo covered. Misspelled words and poorly drawn lines can easily be managed by a nice cover up done by a better tattoo artist. Many tattoo artists are skilled in tattoo cover-ups. Just be sure that your cover-up doesn’t have any mistakes in it either.

Accept It
It’last-ditchitch effort, but you may be forced to accept the mistake as part of you now. Some tattoo errors are easier to live with. Poorly translated Chinese characters and small mistakes in symbols are easier to accept than fully misspelled words in your native language or a dog missing a leg. Sometimes, you just have to roll with the punches and deal with the fact that you are now living ice breaker.

If you have the money for, there is always the fourth option of having it removed. This can cost thousands of dollars and can sometimes leave permanent scaring. It’s best that you and your tattoo artist double, triple, and quadruple check the tattoo when it is first placed on the skin and before you leave the shop. - Comments: 0
